Linn Parish, editor of the Journal of Business, guides startups on how to engage news sources

In an era of influencers and social media, traditional news organizations endure as important sources of vetted, objective information. In this presentation, you’ll learn:

*The value of earned media. Starting with a discussion of Trust we delve into who creates “Earned media” defined as, “third-party content that spreads word about you”.

*How news organizations operate and what they value. Does your activity have interest to the clients of the publication or outlet. If so, then it has a higher likelihood of being published.

*How best to tell your company’s story. By aligning your press releases and information with newsworthiness standards, you’ll have greater success. The rule of thumb is that news readers are interested in seeing where money flows e.g. hiring, mergers and acquisitions, real estate transactions, VC funding. There are notable startup exceptions since monetary transactions may be a threshold too high.
